As a hydro-geochemist, Matt has a particular focus in the application of environmental isotopes, used in conjunction with other geochemical techniques, to understand environmental systems.

He has undertaken palaeoenvironmental research of sites in Australia, Africa and North America spanning the Miocene to Holocene.

Matt has also worked on understanding the functioning of modern terrestrial, hydrological and oceanographic systems and the effects of climate change and anthropogenic activities on them.

Matt’s role at CABAH, in the climate theme, is to contribute to the development of an increasingly more robust Late Quaternary palaeoenvironmental database, via the investigation of sites located across Australia and into eastern Indonesia.

An essential item in Matt’s toolkit

“An open mind, a good hand lens, plenty of sampling materials and a good portable fridge.”
