Martin’s focus is on facilitating media and art works that supports marginalised groups and individuals to share their stories. As a director and producer of participatory media his works include “Big Stories, Small Towns” (bigstories.com.au) winner of SxSW Interactive Community Champion, and the acclaimed multi-year multi-arts White Building project in Cambodia (whitebuilding.org). His participatory media projects have received over $8 million in competitive grant funding and shown at film, technology and art festivals internationally including the International Documentary Festival (IDFA), Venice Biennale, DocFest UK and Adelaide International Film Festival. Martin has been an Asialink Dunlop Fellow and Ian Potter Cultural Trust Fellow and filmmaker in residence at the Bophana Centre, Cambodia.

Martin is a researcher and lecturer at Deakin University where he is a fellow of the Deakin MotionLab and member of the Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation.

With the Centre of Excellence for Australian Biodiversity and Heritage (CABAH), Martin explores new modes of and partnerships for visualising research.
