PhD Student

University of Wollongong

Lou is a PhD candidate with CABAH node at the University of Wollongong, where she won the 2017 University Medal for Law, Humanities and the Arts. Her work combines history with cultural studies and investigates the inundation events around sea country across deep time Aboriginal history and capitalist-settler-colonial history.  Lou is interested in the normalisation of lawlessness in the latter, and how linear time and language are enacted to function as colonising tools. Her work also questions the possibility of the restoration of Aboriginal law and cultural values – from the most enduring culture on the planet – as the primary operating modes for humans on the places they live.

An essential item in Lou’s toolkit

“Knowing that I answer to a greater purpose in Indigenous Spirituality and law.”
