James Cook University

Christian is a Senior Lecturer in Archaeology at James Cook University, Cairns.

His research focus is the study of prehistoric movement, mobility, and exchange from the empirical analysis of igneous rocks with geochemical techniques.

This can provide tangible evidence for long-distance connections often over thousands of kilometers of marine terrain. After completing his Masters Degree at the University of Cologne, Germany, he moved to Australia to obtain a PhD at the ANU, which was followed by a Postdoctoral Fellowship and an ARC DECRA on the foundations of maritime exchange and interaction in Island SoutheastAsia.

An essential item in Christian’s toolkit:

“Patience and an inquisitive mind.”
